Mathematics : Language of AI
Mathematics : Language of AI
Opening Narration Imagine showing a photograph of a dog to a computer. What does it see? A tail? Four legs? Brown fur? No. It sees none of these. A computer has never seen a dog. In fact, it has never seen anything. Everything a computer knows about the world comes through one language. Numbers. Look around you. A photograph becomes numbers. Your voice becomes numbers. Music becomes numbers. A heartbeat becomes numbers. Your location becomes numbers. Even the words you're hearing right now... will eventually become numbers inside a computer. Before Artificial Intelligence can understand reality... reality must first be translated into mathematics. At first, this sounds impossible. How can the same language describe a song... a sunset... a medical report... and a Shakespeare poem? Yet mathematics does exactly that. It gives every piece of reality a common language. And the moment everything speaks the same language... patterns begin to emerge. That is where intelligence begins. Think about the AI systems you use every day. Netflix doesn't watch movies. Spotify doesn't listen to music. Google doesn't read web pages. ChatGPT doesn't understand English the way you do. Behind the scenes... they are all processing numbers. Different applications. One language. Mathematics. So before we study Machine Learning... before Neural Networks... before Transformers... we need to understand one simple truth. Artificial Intelligence is not built on programming. It is built on mathematics. Programming simply gives mathematics a machine to run on. But now we face an interesting problem. Suppose I write down these five numbers. 82... 91... 78... 88... They're just numbers. You don't know what they represent. Marks? Temperatures? Stock prices? They have no meaning by themselves. How do we tell a computer that these five numbers belong to one student? How do we package information about a single object into one mathematical entity? That simple question gave birth to one of the most important ideas in all of Machine Learning. The Vector. And that's where our journey into AI mathematics truly begins.
