Foundation of AI Evaluation
The Foundation of Every AI Evaluation Metric Imagine you build an AI that detects spam emails. Every time an email arrives, the AI has only two choices. It can say... Spam. Or... Not Spam. Simple. Now imagine the email actually was spam. If the AI correctly says Spam, that's a success. If it incorrectly says Not Spam, it has made a mistake. Now imagine the email was perfectly genuine. If the AI correctly says Not Spam, that's another success. But if it wrongly marks it as spam, that's also a mistake. Suddenly, every prediction made by an AI falls into just four possible outcomes. Two are correct. Two are wrong. These four outcomes are called: True Positive True Negative False Positive False Negative Together, they form one of the most important tools in Machine Learning... The Confusion Matrix. Every evaluation metric you'll ever learn—from Accuracy and Precision to Recall, F1 Score, ROC Curve, and AUC—is built using these four numbers. Think of the Confusion Matrix as the AI's report card. It doesn't simply tell us whether the AI was right or wrong. It tells us how it was right... and how it was wrong. Because in Artificial Intelligence, understanding the mistakes is often more important than celebrating the successes. Everything that follows in this playlist begins with these four simple outcomes.
