Is There a Place for Me in Cybersecurity?
Is There a Place for Me in Cybersecurity?
This is probably the most common question people ask before entering cybersecurity. "I'm from B. Com. " "I'm from BBA. " "I'm from BCA. " "I'm from Mechanical. " "I'm from Civil. " "I'm not from Computer Science. " "Can I still build a career in cybersecurity? " The answer is yes. But there's something important to understand. Cybersecurity is not a degree. It's a profession. And like every profession, it needs people with different strengths. Some roles require strong programming skills. Some require deep knowledge of networks. Some focus on cloud technologies. Others involve auditing, compliance, risk management, investigations, documentation, communication, or security consulting. Think about a hospital. Not everyone there is a surgeon. There are physicians, nurses, pharmacists, radiologists, administrators, technicians, and many more. Together, they make healthcare possible. Cybersecurity is no different. People enter this field from computer science, electronics, information technology, commerce, mathematics, law, psychology, the armed forces, and many other backgrounds. What matters isn't where you're starting. What matters is whether you're willing to learn. So don't compare your background with someone else's. Instead, ask yourself, "Am I curious enough to understand how technology works, and committed enough to keep learning? " Because in cybersecurity, those qualities matter far more than the title printed on your degree certificate. There is no single doorway into this profession. There are many. And one of them could be yours.
